‘Potash’ most commonly refers to potassium based fertilisers, however can be any potassium compounds and potassium bearing material. The majority of the worlds potash is used in fertilisers with the remaining amounts used for industrial and medical purposes.

The most common forms of potash are Muriate of Potash, MOP (KCI) and Sulphate of Potash, SOP (K₂SO₄).

Potash based fertilisers promote root growth and the uptake of nitrogen which promotes higher yields, improves the quality and taste of fruits and vegetables, enhances water retention, and increases disease resistance.

Demand for potash is expected to rise due to increased population and standard of living and worldwide decreased arable land
